In case you were wondering...

Mon dernier post avec un dessin dedans date d'il y a trois mois. Et pour cause... Ces trois derniers mois ont été intenses et le temps a filé comme en trois jours...Je viens tout juste de finir il y a quelques heures un mini-pilote pour un projet de série dévellopé pour Cartoon Network. J'en ai encore les yeux qui piquent de fatigue et j'attaque maintenant la phase étrange du baby blues et ne sais pas trop quoi penser, quoi dire...je suis dans le gaze et j'ai besoin de redescendre apres le sprint. Je ne peux en montrer que quelques images sans savoir lesquelles choisir ou si j'en ai envie, donc rien pour l'instant. Je ne sais pas quand il sera diffusé, mais il le sera. A suivre... Un grand merci du fond du coeur à ceux qui m'ont aidé sans compter, je ferai les présentations plus tard. Je débranche pour deux semaines. ________________________________________________________________________________ My last post with a proper drawing was about three months ago. And these last three month were pretty intense, and it seemed they lasted three only days.I just finished few hours ago a mini-pilot for a TV series project I develloped for Cartoon Network. My eyes are still itchy and blured from the lack of sleep and I'm starting to feel the strange post effect you experience after the rush...I don't what to think nor to say... I can only show one or two pictures of it but I don't know what to choose and if I really want to show anything before the short itself, so nothing now. It will be shown hopefully soon, but I don't know when for now, so stay tunned. I want to deeply thank the people who helped me on the project who did an incredible job, I'll introduce them later. I'm disconnecting for two weeks now.

Une fois n'est pas coutume, je fais un peu de pub copinage: ma chère moitié Verossignol participe à l'expo "Tree House" à la renomée Nucleus gallery de Los Angeles. Ca commence demain 8 Août et c'est quand même un peu la classe, et j'en suis pas peu fier! My dear partner Verossignol will be part of the exhibition "Tree house" at the Nucleus gallery in Los Angeles. It starts tomorrow, the 8th of August and I pretty proud of her. Break art

Courte pause en Ardèche chez les amis les Cailloux. Cette année, pas de gravure mais un petit boulot en rapport quand même... L'ami Didier et l'ami Jojo seront au festival des arts de rue de Chalon ces prochain jours et proposeront un atelier d'impression ambulant d'affiches sauvages. Ils ont donc construit un petit chariot contenant une presse à épreuve et trois casses de caractères en bois. Ils m'ont demandé de le décorer moyennant quelques canons de Pastis(ou comment me motiver à bosser en vacances...) Voilà le résultat. Si vous allez au festoche et que vous les croisez, vous pouver aller leur soutirer un coup de rhum (ils en cacheront une bouteille dans le double fond). Et ils risquent bien d'être à poil sous les tabliers! Pour moi, les vacances sont déjà finies, au boulot!_______________________________________________ Short break in Ardèche (south of France) with our dear friends les Cailloux This year, no etching nor printing, but a small job still related to it. My friends Didier and Jojo will go to a famous "performing arts street festival" in Chalon (France) these next days, and they will lead a poster printing workshop in the street. So they build a small carriage to carry some wood letters and a small press, and they asked me to decorate it.Here is the result...And my holidays are over, back to work... Après une petite couche de vernis. After some varnish. Et un petit croquis dans l'eurostar sur l'excellent Colors de la DS. J'ai pas réussi à mettre la video du work in progress. C'est bien intéressant pour se voir faire soi-même. And a quick sketch made on the very good Colors on the DS. I couln't upload the wip video. It's a very interesting feature for yourself to see how you proceed while drawing.

Sketchtravel done!

Ca y est, le Sketchtravel est passé entre nos mains à Véro et à moi. On s'est bien amusé. Avant de pouvoir découvrir notre réalisation (et le work in progress video), il faudra vous contenter de quelques photos...On ramène le carnet à Paris dès demain, puis il repartira aux USA dans les jours à venir. So finaly, Véro and I did our pieces in the Sketchtravel, we had fun doing it. You'll have to wait to see the result (and the work in progress video), so all I can show is these photos...We're taking the book to Paris tomorrow and it will go to the US again in the next few days.

Wilma Tenderfoot #1

Des nouvelles du front! Beaucoup de boulot au boulot, un projet en développement, un autre en cours, de l'anim, de la 3D, du compositing...miam! Et à défaut de pouvoir en révéler quoi que ce soit à votre curiosité, je vous expose les larcins de ma vie parallèle. Via mon agent (Arena), qui me représente sur le sol britannique, je viens de finir d'illustrer un roman jeunesse, Wilma Tenderfoot and the case of the Frozen Hearts de Emma Kennedy, aux éditions Macmillan. Cinq tomes sont prévus au pays de la Reine. Je me frotte au marché anglais, aux relations avec un agent, une manière différente de procéder et surtout à jongler avec un emploi du temps de ministre... Je suis assez mitigé du résultat...la balance entre désir et répondre à une commande/attente est toujours délicate... En voici la couverture, la maquette étant de la DA de l'éditeur (je précise). Et détail amusant, en vrai les objets dans les cases sont noirs et apparaissent sous la chaleur du doigt... ____________________________________________________ Some news at last! But to excuse me of not revealing anything of it, I'm showing you the result of my parallel life. Via my agent (Arena), who represents me on the british ground, I just finished to illustrate a kids novel, Wilma Tenderfoot and the case of the Frozen Hearts by Emma Kennedy, published by Macmillan. Five books are already planned in the Queen's land. I'm experiencing a pretty tight schedule, believe me! So, here's the cover, the art director at Macmillan did the layout of it. Funny details, the objects in the boxes are black and you reveal them by touching them, heat sensitive ink!

D' habitude, je ne montre jamais ce que je fais à mon vrai travail, vu que je n'ai pas le droit de montrer des projets en développement. Tout ce que je montre ici est donc de l'extra fait à côté. Ce qui suit est une séquence-titre pour un projet de série créé par la talentueuse Rikke Asbjoërn et devellopé avec l'équipe. Il n'a malheureusement pas été retenu. Voilà longtemps que je voulais poster cette vieillerie de 2005 pour laquelle j'ai une affection particulière...Il sagit de la version animée du decors posté il y a belle lurette ici. C'était donc un exercice d'effets spéciaux co-realisé avec mon poto Fabulon aux gobelins. On s'était bien amusés à enregistrer passer le RER dans la gare d'à côté!

Sir Quentin Blake (....and i)

J'ai eu l'immense honneur d'aller visiter maître Quentin Blake dans son studio, pour récupérer le Sketchtravel. Les mots manquent pour décrire cette experience unique. La frustration après coup de ne pas profiter plus de ce genre de moment unique, le sentiment de petitesse ressenti sous la bibliothèque recouvrant le mur, et remplie de plus de 340 livres. Bref, je n'en menais pas large et c'est ce genre de rencontre qui marque pour longtemps et font reflechir beaucoup! Catherine s'est occupé de l'interview et Ben, des photos et du film. Je salue au passage leur implication dans le projet. N'oubliez pas d'aller voir le blog du Sketchtravel pour plus de détails. I had the huge honnor to meet master Quentin Blake in his London studio, to get the Sketchtravel from him. Words are weak to describe this very unique experience. The frustration afterwards not to take more advantage of that kind of rare moments, the feeling of beeing so small under the bookshelf packed with more than 340 books. I was really impressed, and I will remember this for a long time, and that the kind of thing that make you think a lot about your own work. Catherine was in charge of the interview and Ben filmed and took the pictures. They are so involved in the project. Don't forget to check the Sketchtravel blog for more details. More to come!

Me revoilà de retour de vacances et dans ma nouvelle maison... Avec un peu de retard donc, j'annonce la sortie de l'album collectif "Rendez-vous", auquel j'ai participé et qui sortira chez Akileos le 18 septembre prochain en librairie. Un blog a été créé pour promouvoir le projet. Ci-dessous, la planche un sur quatre. Le tout fait en deux semaines et demi, vu que j'ai attendu le dernier moment... I'm back from holidays and I've moved into my new house... A bit late, I tell you about the release of a collective comic book I've been working on, called "Rendez-vous". It will be available the 18th of september in France, published by Akileos, and should be exported soon because there are no dialogues. A blog has been created to promote it. Up there is the first page of four. The all of it was done in two and a half week, because I waited the last moment to start...

Totoro Forest Project!!

Eh ben voilà, ce dont j'ai commencé à parler il y a quelques temps vient d'être révélé au monde! Il s'agit donc du Totoro Forest Project, un excitant projet auquel j'ai été invité à participer, avec 200 autres artistes. Il sagissait de réaliser notre propre vision de Totoro, inspirée par le film de maître Miyazaki. Les oeuvres seront exposées à Pixar (et certaines au San Fransisco Cartoon Art Museum), ou elles seront vendues aux encheres, et les bénéfices reversés au National Trust Totoro Forest Foundation, pour la protection de la forêt de Sayama, qui n'est autre que la forêt de Totoro! Forêt menacée bien sur... Ensuite, un livre sera édité avec l'ensemble des oeuvres, que vous pouvez voir sur le site officiel. Here is my piece and its description.. -TITLE: Totorus grandiflora -SIZE: 31.66x41.9 cm (3739x4949 pixels) -MEDIA: Mixed (pencil, watercolor, ink) but then mainly digital (photoshop). -DESCRIPTION: This piece is partly based on the circular greenhouse you can find in Strasbourg's botanical garden (East of France). A really beautiful greenhouse, really intimate, that I specialy love. I love greenhouses anyway, the light and plants are usually unique, and the impression inside is magical. I like the mix of nature and artificial elements such as the lables with scientific names, pipes, taps, garden hoses... But in a way, it's a bit like puting nature in a box, like zoos do for animals. It's sound like the last hope for nature in case it desapears completely. So that could really be the last shelter of the nature spirit as well. That's what I wanted to show...It's a bit sad in a way, but it would be totally hopeless if totoro wasn't giving an acorn to the children..The hope. I won't explain further more, Miyazaki already did it way better than me, with his masterpiece.__________________________________________ Quelques gribouillis... Some doodles... Nouvelles/pubs

Je suis assez silencieux en ce moment, beaucoup de travail et de projets dans tous les sens, un déménagement sur les rails, un festival d'annecy et me voilà en mode sous-marin.. Donc pas de dessins pour maintenant, quelques annonces et trucs très chouettes pour remplir. Tout dabord mon compère marmouzet, qui organise avec brio fin juillet et en allemagne, le skizzenfestival (festival international du croquis, en langue courtoise) auquel je prendrai part avec le compère mr. fabulon, dans un projet commun de fresque, où l'on tentera de réaliser le plus grand croquis du monde, et ainsi qu'avec l'autre compère, mr.caillou, dans un projet commun de...ben de pastis où l'on tentera d'en trouver...___________________________________________ I've been pretty silent lately, a lot of work, projects on the side, I'm moving home, annecy festival... So, no drawings for now, just news and events to come, nice stuffs. First of all, my pal marmouzet, organizes the skizzenfestival, a sketching festival in germany at the end of july. I'll be part of it with my other pal mr. fabulon in a common project of wall painting where we'll (try to) make the biggest sketch in the world, and with my other pal mr. caillou, in a common project of...boozing? Ensuite, mon petit film,la soupe à l'engrais, continue sa petite vie, j'ai reçu il y a quelques semaines le deuxième prix du concours de Cold Hard Flash. Il a été sélectionné avec dix autres films parmi la diffusion de l'année et jugé par des stars très paillettes...voilà c'est rigolo. Je crois que je vais refaire des films-d'un-mois-pas-finis, moi.. Merci à Aaron, l'organisateur, qui m'a fabriqué ce classieux petit prix virtuel ci-après!! ___________________________________________________ Then, my little film, fertilizer soup, continues its own little life and won few weeks ago, the second price in the Cold Hard Flash competition. It was selected with ten other films among the year's selection and judged by pretty fancy professionals. That's it, pretty funny, I think I'll do an other unfinished-made-in-a-month film...Thanks to Aaron who organized this ans made me this classy virtual cup down there!!

London ZOO-ZSL

Samedi je suis allé faire quelques croquis au Zoo de Londres...c'est définitivement déprimant un zoo. En bas il y a des chevaux, croqués chez ma soeur, les premiers croquis de l'année. Saturday I went to London Zoo to do some sketches...Zoos are definetly depressing. The horses were made to my sister's house, the first sketches of the year, I didn't do much, it was freezing! Et puis mes copains du boulot, Chris et Dave, jouent dans un groupe "The dive". Petit croquis de leur concert dans un pub à Camden vendredi dernier. And my friends from work, Chris and Dave, play in a band, "The Dive". Here is a sketch of dave playing during a gig in a pub last friday.

L'ami Simon le talentueux nous a invité a venir joyeusement salir un beau mur blanc pour son expo. Vous pouvez voir toute la série ici. En vrai c'est dans un escalier, c'est petit et y'a un va-et-vient constant de 20 personnes par minute. Merci à toi simon, c'était fort rigolo..

Venise

Je reviens tout juste d'un petit voyage à Venise, voici les deux seuls croquis que j'ai pris le temps de faire des petits étalages de marchés recouverts. Le retour à Londres est assez dur...De retour, je me dis qu'on aurait du faire plus de croquis...voilà l'occasion d'y retourner! I just got back from a trip to Venice, here are the only two sketches I took time to do of this wonderful city. Coming back to London is pretty hard...Now, I wish we did more sketches, it will be next time's purpose!

J'ai eu l'honneur de réaliser la carte de voeux 2008 du célèbre carnet pour le site sketchtravel. Merci à Gerald et Dice pour cette confiance, ce qui ne m'a pas empêché de me mettre la pression! Peut-être que 2008 sera l'année ou j'apporterai ma contribution au carnet... Ci-dessous, des recherches et détails. Joyeux sketchtravel 2008! Une mécanique

Petite update dans mon portfolio. Des recherches faites en mars dernier sur le personnage de giant jack, pour la pochette du prochain album de dyonisos "la mécanique du coeur". J'ai été envoyé sur des pistes qui n'étaient pas les miennes sans retours précis sur ce que je proposais. La liberté que je pensais avoir s'est peu à peu restreinte, j'ai fini par laisser tomber. Avorté très tôt, donc, dommage j'étais très motivé...Vous pouvez voir une sélection de croquis en cliquant ici. An update on my portfolio. Some researches I did last march on a character, for the cover art of the next dionysos album, "la mécanique du coeur". I thought I could be a little bit free, but I was little by little asked for things that were not personnal. I finally gave up. You can see a selection of sketches clicking here.

Scritch scratch de transition...

Depuis deux semaines, comme pour contrer ma petite passe à vide, je me suis remis avec plaisir et excitation aux croquis quotidiens. Quel plaisir, je deviens boulimique, je me dérouille, me décomplexe, peu importe si le dessin est raté (mais je les garde pour moi les ratés quand même). Je veux juste noter, observer et revenir au dessin brut, je veux apprendre. C'est grisant. A suivre...ne plus arrêter! Since two weeks, I started sketching everyday again with great pleasure and excitement. The more I sketch, the more I want to sketch, I practise, I become less shy, I don't care if the drawing is bad. I just want to observe, to learn. To be continued...I musn't stop!

Mosaïque

Un retour aux vacances dernières, avec une petite initiation à la mosaïque avec notre professeur, mlle Caillou. Les autres carreaux sont de Vérossignol, mr Caillou et mlle Caillou, bien sûr. Le tout décore leur salle de bain. Back to summer holidays, with a little mozaic lesson with our teacher, miss Caillou. They have a nice bathroom now.

La soupe à l'engrais/Fertilizer soup 2005

-Voici sorti du tiroir 2005 un petit court-métrage réalisé en un mois dans le cadre d'un exercice d'anim limitée pour une chaîne télé pour enfants. Le thème était "quand je serai grand". Certaines anims ne sont même pas finies comme je l'avais prévu. Il a été sélectionné dans huits festivals dans le monde dont Ottawa, Siggraph et Annecy 2006. -From 2005 archives, a little short I did at school for a limited animation exercise in one month for a children TV chanel,the theme was "when I'll grow up".It was selected in eight festivals included Ottawa, Siggraph and Annecy 2006.

Je suis retombé là-dessus en rangeant un peu, alors je vous en fait profiter... Extrait d'illustrations réalisées en novembre 2005 pour l'association/galerie "à table" a boulogne-sur-mer. Elles ont fait objet d'un repas/expo sur le theme du miroir et d'une édition en livret. Je suis allé à la rencontre des différents protagonistes du port de pêche pour leur faire leurs portraits sur le vif (retouchés ensuite sur ordi).Expérience riche en rencontres (plus ou moins intriguées) et horaires trés matinales pour finalement découvrir ce milieu.Ah oui, et ca change un peu de faire des portraits réalistes. ______________Extract of illustrations made in november 2005 for an art galery/association in the boulogne-sur-mer harbour in France.They were done for a small exhibition and for a booklet printing.I met the people who work in the harbour and fishing industry to draw their portrait in live.It was a rich and interesting experience even if I had to get up (very) early in the morning.And it's good to draw realisticly sometimes...

Typolino : gravure et tête de plomb

Here is the project I worked on during holidays...We organized an etching workshop with my 2003 illustration classmates in ardèche (french countryside). Thanks to evelyne and didier (heureuxlescailloux)we could meet again and work all together! The first one is the pencil sketch and the second one is the final linoleum print. The typography is lead Ghotic. We printed all of it during one night!....My fingers hurted me... Merci les cailloux!!
